American Idol season 21 is heating up with only 26 contestants remaining in the competition. The Top 26 singers are set to perform for public voting in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan at the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii. On night one of the performances, R&B/soul singer-songwriter Allen Stone served as a mentor to thirteen of the contestants.
Allen Stone is known for his soulful voice and R&B melodies. His musical foundation formed in church, where he first discovered his love for singing with others. Stone gained fame in 2011 when a video of him performing “Unaware” in his mother’s living room went viral on YouTube, with 15 million views to date. He has released five albums and frequently goes on tour, with headlining shows this summer and support for country music star Chris Stapleton on tour.
Stone has appeared on American Idol before as a performer, doing duets with contestants of his song “Unaware” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” He was also a finalist on the short-lived “American Song Contest” in 2022, representing his home state of Washington.
The remaining contestants were split into two groups, with 13 singers performing on each night of the show. Public voting began after night one performances, allowing fans to choose their favorite contestants to move forward.
During Stone’s mentoring session, he gave tips and feedback to each contestant to help them improve their performances. Iam, a Hawaiian contestant, had a family reunion during her performance that touched the judges’ hearts.
Fans have multiple options to vote for their favorite contestants including SMS text, the American Idol app or ABC.com. The Top 20 contestants will be unveiled in the next Sunday’s episode.
Each contestant took the stage with their unique voice and style, showcasing their talent and dedication to the competition. The judges provided positive feedback on each contestant’s performance, leaving the audience excited for what’s to come.
