The event was hosted by Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, both nominees for awards. The night was filled with thrilling performances featuring famous musicians like Gwen Stefani, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, and Carrie Underwood.
One of the highlights of the night was Tyler Hubbard’s solo debut performance at an awards show after his break from Florida Georgia Line. Hubbard performed his latest hit “Dancin’ in the Country,” which he wrote with Jon Nite, Ross Copperman, and Keith Urban. Hubbard’s performance took place on an outdoor stage with the stunning backdrop of the Texas Capitol Building. The country crooner wore a tan jacket and matching pants with a white shirt, highlighting the song’s casual dance party vibes.
With a full band accompanying him, Hubbard played his banjo prominently during his live performance of the song, which features banjo picking in its instrumentation. He then invited the audience to join him for a dance party on stage, adding to the lively atmosphere of the night.
The CMT Music Awards ceremony has several categories, including video of the year, female video of the year, male video of the year, group/duo video of the year, female breakthrough video of the year, male breakthrough video of the year, collaborative video of the year, CMT performance of the year, and CMT digital-first performance of the year. Each category had several nominees from which winners were indicated in bold during the event.
Carrie Underwood leads all-time winners at CMT with 25 wins and was nominated again this year for the coveted video of the year award, along with Blake Shelton, Gabby Barrett, Luke Combs, Little Big Town, and more.
The ceremony also featured a tribute performance to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Lynyrd Skynyrd by various artists. Another highlight of the night was the announcement that Shania Twain would be receiving the 2023 “CMT Equal Play Award.” Alanis Morissette made her CMT debut with a performance celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the “CMT Next Women of Country” initiative.

The 58th year of this event will be held live from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
