Molly Shannon, an actress, comedian, and formerly a cast member of Saturday Night Live has returned to host the show. Her return was highly anticipated, and she delivered with memorable performances, which kept the audience entertained throughout the night.
Molly Shannon’s Return to Saturday Night Live
Molly Shannon made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Live and brought back some of her cherished characters. Highlighting her performance was Jeannie Darcy, one of her more difficult characters to get on the show. Jeannie Darcy is a terrible standup comedian who cannot tell a joke. Despite that, Molly Shannon’s portrayal of Jeannie Darcy was hilarious in a sketch that featured a commercial parody for a comedy special called “Jeannie Darcy: Selective Startage.” The sketch ended with a joke about a new Tesla electric car.
Sally O’Malley Makes a Return to SNL
Apart from playing Jeannie Darcy, Molly Shannon brought back another beloved character, Sally O’Malley. Sally O’Malley is a brash 50-year-old dancer who was first introduced in 1999. In keeping with the times, Sally is now the newly hired dance choreographer for the Jonas Brothers in a sketch. Known for her signature line, “I’m fifty!,” Molly addressed Sally’s age in the sketch by saying “Honey, I’ve been 50 since before you were born.”
Devon Walker and James Austin Johnson Make Political Statement
After Molly said goodnight, Devon Walker and James Austin Johnson held up black T-shirts in support of Justin Jones and Justin Pearson. Jones and Pearson were Democratic legislators who were ousted from the Tennessee State House of Representatives for participating in a gun control protest on the floor of the statehouse.
Molly Shannon’s return to Saturday Night Live was a spectacular success, and she proved once again that she is an exceptional comedian and actress. As always, the show delivered a torrent of laughs and memorable moments showcasing the incredible talents of its cast members.
