Katy Perry had a double reason to be excited for American Idol’s Hawaii Week on ABC as she brought her two-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, with her. The singer and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, welcomed their first child back in August 2020. Despite the challenges of traveling during the pandemic, Perry opted to take Daisy along with her to Honolulu for the show’s filming. While she worked alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, Daisy got the chance to enjoy a family vacation at the Aulani Disney Resort.
Daisy had an adventure-filled trip in Hawaii as she met Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse at breakfast. According to Perry’s Instagram account, Daisy enjoyed singing with Moana while staying at the Aulani resort. The young member of the Perry-Bloom household appeared to have no fear as she posed with Minnie in front of a beautiful view.
Interestingly enough, Katy Perry jokingly said that she accidentally named her daughter after the Disney character Daisy Duck. During an episode of American Idol when contestant Cassandra Coleman expressed disappointment over not being able to see her child much during filming, Perry responded by saying “I don’t have a nanny right now…I’m just a new mom…My daughter – she’s such a gift – but there is sometimes instability,” which caused some backlash from Coleman who accused the singer of “mom-shaming.” Perry quickly apologized but also made light of the fact that she named her daughter after a cartoon duck.
This season’s American Idol has proven to be challenging for all parties involved as they had to navigate production during the pandemic. However, the judges and mentors were thrilled to discover that there were more talented contestants than slots available. To accommodate the abundance of new talent, the show’s Top 24 was expanded to a Top 26.
Aside from the usual trio of judges, American Idol Hawaii Week welcomed two talented musicians to mentor their contestants. Noah Cyrus and Allen Stone joined Perry, Richie, and Bryan in guiding aspiring artists through their performances. Perry even praised Cyrus for her latest album’s unique sound during their time working together.
During filming for American Idol, contestant Cassandra Coleman opened up about the difficulty of being away from her children during production. Perry offered some sympathy but also mentioned that her own experience with motherhood was challenging at times too. However, some viewers accused Perry of “mom-shaming” Coleman, leading to a bit of controversy online. Nevertheless, Perry apologized for how her comments were perceived and wished Coleman all the best as she left the show’s 21st season to return home to her three children.
In conclusion, Katy Perry made the most out of her trip to Honolulu by bringing her daughter with her while filming American Idol. The family got to enjoy some quality time together while also fulfilling their work obligations. Daisy Dove even had a Disney-themed adventure while staying at Aulani resort where she met some of her favorite fictional characters. American Idol Hawaii Week also saw two new mentors joining the judges’ table, and this season had an expanded Top 26 due to an abundance of new talent. While there were some bumps along the way, like the controversy surrounding Perry’s comments on motherhood with contestant Cassandra Coleman, it was certainly a memorable week for everyone involved.
