Coachella has always been seen as the place to be for influencers from all over the world. But according to music sensation and TikToker, Loren Gray, many of these influencers pretend to attend Coachella while they are not even there. In her video, Loren reveals that a lot of influencers dress up, get makeup done and take photos in Indio, California where the festival is held without actually attending the event. They do not have wristbands to enter the festival but their posts on social media make it look like they do.
Faking attendance at events is not new in the influencer world. Loren’s video touches on how some influencers fake their trips and appearances to show off a luxurious lifestyle that is not real. A 2021 HBO documentary, “Fake Famous”, exposed how influencers can use simple tricks to manufacture their fame, like buying followers and fabricating a luxurious lifestyle.
Many influencers use photo editing for fake locations and private jets. They also fake trips using pre-shot content. By faking their environment, influencers can get high follower count which leads to sponsorship deals including gifts and cash. According to Influencer Marketing Hub, even a ‘nanoinfluencer’ with 1,000 to 10,000 followers on Instagram can earn up to $100 per post whereas ‘mega-influencers’ with a million followers or more can earn $10,000 for a single post.
In her video, Loren reminds viewers not to feel “sad” or have FOMO because many of the social media influencers who they follow aren’t really at Coachella. She also points out that it’s important for viewers to realize that it’s all fake.
Faking your environment can be pretty easy, and many influencers have been caught posing in fake luxurious locations, private gyms, and drinking apple juice in champagne flutes instead of champagne. They do everything to create an illusion of luxury and glamour to attract more followers on social media.
Loren Gray rose to fame through the social media app Musical.ly at the age of 13, and has since moved on to a singing and influencing career on YouTube and TikTok. In her video, Loren talks about how she values authenticity over creating a fake persona. She encourages influencers to be themselves on social media platforms and suggests that people should follow content creators who are genuine.
Loren Gray’s video has made many people realize that they had never thought of this possibility before. Some commenters even claimed that the video made them feel better about not being able to attend the festival. Perhaps this will change the way influencers approach their content creation in the future by encouraging them to be more genuine about their experiences.
In conclusion, faking attendance at events like Coachella is not just limited to influencers but also extends to their luxurious lifestyles. However, it’s important for viewers to realize that all this is an illusion created for online audiences. Loren Gray serves as a good example of how authenticity can make a difference in the social media world where everyone seems to be trying too hard.
