The Voice Season 23 Battles witnessed the elimination of three acts on Tuesday night. It was a challenging battle between the talents, but only a few could make it to the next stage of the competition. Kelly Clarkson, who returned to her usual seat on the coaches’ panel, declared Chance the Rapper her favorite coach during a chat with him. Let’s dive into the details of what went down on Tuesday night’s episode.
Three acts were eliminated in The Voice Season 23 Battles on Tuesday night. Ross Clayton defeated Laura Littleton on “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” from Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty. Magnus defeated Alyssa Lazar on “Your Song” in Chance’s team, while Marcos Covos defeated Sheer Element on “I Could Fall in Love” in Kelly’s team. Kylee Dayne defeated Mary Kate Connor on “Anti-Hero” in Blake’s team, but Mary Kate was given a Playoff Pass.
The performances were graded based on different criteria by the coaches. Each coach had to make tough decisions and choose one winner from each pair in their team. The post-battle interviews revealed that the contestants poured their hearts out, giving their all to each performance.
The coaches shared their opinion about the duets and individual performances of the contestants. Niall advised Ross Clayton to leave himself room to grow and get grittier as the song went on, which he did and shone. Blake mentioned that Kylee Dayne and Mary Kate Connor sounded pretty but also dull on “AntiHero”. Chance pitted Magnus and Alyssa Lazar against each other to blend different styles, but it didn’t work out as expected on stage.
Kelly shared her thoughts on the emotional and vocal aspects of the performances delivered by the members of her team. She commended Marcos Covos for his excellent voice and soulful melody, while also praising his opponent, Sheer Element. Kelly expressed her delight over the competition and how every performance had something unique to offer.
Kelly bonded with new coach Chance the Rapper over their love for Joni Mitchell during the show. The two coaches joked around, with Chance making Kelly laugh so hard that she nearly fell out of her chair. Chance admitted he had never heard the Stevie Nicks-Tom Petty duet “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” which featured in Ross Clayton and Laura Littleton’s performance.
Despite his lack of knowledge about the song, Kelly declared Chance her favorite coach. Laura Littleton and Ross Clayton’s rocking performance of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” gave The Voice family an epic moment on stage. The other coaches praised the performance, but Chance admitted that he had never heard the song before.
The season 23 coaches shared their excitement for being on the show during Blake Shelton’s last goround. Kelly insisted that she wouldn’t let nostalgia affect her competitive nature despite coming from years back, whereas Niall and Chance are ready to challenge Blake Shelton’s dynasty with full force.
The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. PT/ET and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. PT/ET on NBC, so don’t miss out on this thrilling journey of music and talent discovery.
