Avengers star Jeremy Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is recovering remarkably after a near-fatal snowplow accident on New Year’s Day. Renner risked his life to save his nephew from being run over by a snowcat weighing over 14,000 pounds. Unfortunately, the snowcat crushed him instead, resulting in more than 30 broken bones and multiple orthopedic injuries.
Renner underwent two surgeries and was confined to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he fought to recover from severe blunt chest trauma, knee and ankle fractures, tibia fractures, a pierced liver, collapsed lung, multiple broken ribs, an injured shoulder and jaw. Despite the numerous setbacks he faced, his spirit never wavered. With the support of his family and medical team at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, Renner began documenting his journey on Instagram. He posted updates on his progress, including videos showing him undergoing physical therapy.
In his first interview since the accident with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, Renner talked about the incident and how he remembers being awake through every moment of it. He also recalled apologizing to his family using sign language when he couldn’t speak. The interview gave viewers an in-depth look at the critical hours after the accident, including 911 recordings that captured those at the scene trying to help Renner.
Despite losing flesh and bone in the accident,Renner dreams of doing his superhero stunts again. He said he would “do it again” in a heartbeat if it meant saving someone he loved. However, his path to full recovery will be a long and challenging one. Renner’s family members and first responders were interviewed during the special, providing insights into the conditions surrounding his rescue. The interview also showcased Renner’s remarkable progress, which includes the use of an anti-gravity treadmill and electric stimulation workouts.
The interview with Diane Sawyer comes a week before Renner’s first in-person appearance following the accident for the Los Angeles premiere of his new Disney+ docuseries. Despite his injuries, the accident did not delay the release of his projects, including the second season of his series The Mayor of Kingstown. Throughout it all, Renner remained optimistic and grateful for his family’s support. He praised his daughter Ava on Instagram on her tenth birthday for helping him heal so quickly.
Jeremy Renner’s road to recovery has been a tough one, but he remains optimistic about his future. His story is a testament to the human spirit’s resilience in the face of adversity. Despite losing flesh and bone, he dreams of doing his superhero stunts again, and nothing can stop him.
