Barcelona’s Lead in La Liga Table Cut Down to 11 Points with Nine Games Left in the Season

Barcelona’s lead in the La Liga table was cut down to 11 points after they failed to score against Getafe, resulting in a goalless draw. This was their third straight game without a win or scoring. Although they are still ahead of Real Madrid, it seems unlikely that they will be able to catch up with them with only nine games left in the season.

Barcelona’s Recent Struggles

Barcelona has been struggling in their recent matches, with a draw against Girona and another against Getafe. They have suffered many absentees, such as Ousmane Dembele and Pedri. The absence of these key players has resulted in inexperienced players being benched, such as Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres.

In their match against Getafe, Barcelona’s performance was underwhelming, with few chances created. Both teams fouled heavily and did not play a lot of football in the opening 45 minutes. Barça ended up having the better opportunities despite playing bad attacking football. Getafe had a few good moments but never came close to scoring.

Xavi Hernandez Blames Turf for Goalless Draw

Xavi Hernandez, a former Barcelona player and current Al-Sadd coach, blamed the turf at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for their goalless draw with Getafe. He claimed that it hurt the team and was bad for the spectacle. However, he denied using it as an excuse even though Getafe’s Munir had issues with the ball on some counters.

Barcelona had an opportunity to extend their points lead but failed to do so, and Xavi urged the team to improve their performance. Their previous loss to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals marked a low point for the team.

Barcelona’s Next Matches

Barcelona’s next match against Atletico Madrid is crucial for them to maintain their lead in the La Liga table. Atletico Madrid is known for keeping clean sheets, which poses a challenge for Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez made two attacking substitutions, but those did little to improve the Blaugrana in possession.

Their next opponent after Atletico Madrid is Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona will have to improve their performance if they want to maintain their lead in the table.

Getafe Happy with Draw

Getafe was content with the draw against Barcelona, and goalkeeper David Soria was happy with the outcome. The game ended in a goalless draw, with both teams receiving a point.

Will Barcelona Screw This Up?

The question now remains whether Barcelona will screw this up or not. They have been playing terrible football, and Xavi is providing zero answers. A win against Atletico Madrid next week is crucial for Barcelona to maintain their lead in the La Liga table.

In conclusion, Barcelona’s lead in the La Liga table has been cut down to 11 points with nine games left in the season. Their recent struggles and absence of key players have affected their performance. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to maintain their lead in the table or not.
