As the English football league season winds down, several teams are fighting for promotions and fighting off relegation. In the Championship, Burnley is looking to secure automatic promotion and a return to the Premier League.
Burnley has been a dominant force in the Championship this season, with a record of only two losses in 39 games. They have scored the most goals and have conceded the fewest.
Leading scorer Nathan Tella has tallied 17 goals this season, while Jay Rodriguez has contributed nine goals along with six players who have scored five or more. Josh Brownhill has seven assists and six goals to his name.
Burnley holds an impressive 84 points total, 17 points more than third-place Middlesbrough and Luton Town in fourth.
This weekend’s fixture against Middlesbrough may see Burnley claim automatic promotion back to the Premier League. To achieve this feat, they need a win against Middlesbrough while hoping that Luton Town loses against Millwall.
However, securing promotion can also happen on Monday on Easter Monday if Burnley succeeds against Sheffield United, but either way, a victory over Middlesbrough would bring them one step closer to the top flight of English football.
Although several teams have an outside chance at making the playoffs. However, Luton Town and Middlesbrough appear destined for playoff spots as they possess double-digit point leads on teams ranked seventh or lower in the table.
Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers and Millwall hold four-point margins over seventh place. Should any of these teams drop points in their remaining fixtures, there is still a chance for Norwich City, Coventry City, West Brom, Preston North End, Watford, and Sunderland to contend for playoff spots.
The relegation battle in the Championship is also gripping, with five teams in danger of dropping to League One. Huddersfield, Wigan, Blackpool, Reading and Rotherham are currently locked in a survival battle, making for a tense final stretch of fixtures.
In League One and League Two competitions, the competition is just as tough. Four teams are vying intensely for leaving automatic promotion positions open while others are making a case for the playoffs.
Leyton Orient is considered the top contender for the League Two title whilst several teams are contending fiercely for that third automatic promotion spot.
Led by former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany at the helm as manager, Burnley has stamped its authority on the Championship. With only 10 games of the season remaining, they have all but secured the title and promotion back to the top flight of English football.
They will try to make history by being promoted through 23 championship victories this season if they proceed to achieve it before mid-April. This would mean Burnley’s supporters could celebrate a perfect Easter weekend with a promotion party.
Conclusion:
Burnley’s remarkable run of form over the course of the season means they have an insurmountable lead on points heading toward their final games. Their incredible run of form has fans excited about returning to the Premier League after relegation in 2019. While others hope to avoid relegation or secure playoff spots in Championship and League One competitions.
