LeBron James arrived in Houston to watch his son Bronny compete in the McDonald’s All-American Game, one of the most prestigious high school basketball events in the country. The Lakers superstar brought along his whole family to watch his son’s impressive performance.
Bronny did not disappoint. In a game filled with the brightest high school basketball players in the country, he stood out with a dominant performance, scoring 15 points with five three-pointers. His father was animated each time Bronny scored, standing up and cheering throughout the game as he sat courtside.
Despite his impressive performance, Bronny’s team didn’t take home the win on Tuesday. Nonetheless, his performance was a bright glimpse into the NBA royalty’s future in the league.
Bronny also competed in the McDonald’s All-American Game dunk contest, following in his father’s footsteps who won the Powerade Jam Fest way back in 2003. Bronny finished in second place to Duke signee Sean Stewart.
In his first attempt, he performed a 180° two-hand reverse windmill that earned him a score of 65. On his second attempt, he performed a powerful windmill and earned a score of 57. In the final round, he successfully pulled off a one-hand dunk over his brother Bryce James that earned him a score of 63. Unfortunately, his between-the-legs attempts were incomplete and he scored only 49.
The game featured several other talented young basketball players apart from Bronny. The week was filled with highlights from many young prospects.
Texas player Ron Holland made a strong first impression with great length and versatility. Kentucky player D.J. Wagner is considered one of the top guards in his class and improved his shot selection. USC player Isaiah Collier is one of the best passing guards in the country and could soon team up with Bronny James at USC next season.
Iowa State player Omaha Biliew stood out with impressive defense and versatility, making him a player NBA scouts will watch closely. Kentucky player Justin Edwards, regarded as the No. 1 overall prospect in his class, has great length and is a great three-level scorer. He will be a complementary piece on the wing to both Wagner and five-star guard Rob Dillingham.
Duke player Jared McCain may not be the biggest or flashiest guard in the senior class, but he is a winner and has won three California state championships. G League Ignite player Matas Buzelis has impressive length at the guard position and is bouncy when playing above the rim, making him a potential target for NBA scouts who value youth and potential over older, established players in the draft.
Connecticut player Stephon Castle has made huge strides in improving his overall game this season with great pace and consistent mid-range game.
Bronny’s athleticism has greatly improved over the past two years, making him one of the most talked-about young players in high school basketball today. He is currently ranked No. 35 in the 247Sports 2023 Top150 Player Rankings.
After graduation, Bronny will have several options to consider such as Ohio State, Oregon, USC, or the NBA’s G League Ignite program, which provides elite prospects an alternative path before entering the NBA draft.
In conclusion, it was an exciting week for high school basketball fans as they watched some of the most talented young basketball players in America compete at McDonald’s All-American Game. Bronny James definitely stole the show with his performance both on the court and during his dunk contest attempt. We can’t wait to see where his basketball career takes him next.
