As Manchester City welcome Liverpool in a crucial Premier League match, they will be without the services of their star striker Erling Haaland who is out due to injury. However, Argentine forward Julian Alvarez is set to take his place at the forefront of City’s attack. With five goals in just six Premier League starts, Alvarez has impressed whenever given the chance. His ability to play as a lone striker and also as a floating No. 10 behind Haaland has made him an important asset for City.
In a bid to unsettle their opponents, Manchester City have made six changes to their side that played against Burnley in their previous match. The most notable of these changes is Haaland’s absence which has forced Guardiola to rethink his attacking strategy. However, he has enough talent at his disposal to still field a strong team.
City’s rock-solid defence has been one of the keys to their success this season. They have kept five clean sheets in a row and will be looking to continue that impressive form against Liverpool. Ederson will be shielded by the back four comprising of Stones, Akanji, Dias, and Ake.
With Haaland and Foden unavailable due to injury and surgery respectively, Guardiola has opted for Grealish wide left and Mahrez wide right with Alvarez in the middle. This will add a lot of vibrancy and creativity to their game as they look to unlock Liverpool’s defence.
Liverpool have always been a tough nut for Manchester City to crack. In fact, they have won more Premier League games against reigning champions than any other team. Despite their poor form away from home this season, they will be looking to replicate the upset they caused when they last visited the Etihad in 2020. However, facing a City side that has won their last three Premier League games and is looking to win four in a row for the first time this season will be no easy task.
The absence of Haaland due to his ongoing groin injury is a massive blow for Manchester City. With a treble still up for grabs, Guardiola will be hoping that the severity of the injury is on the lower end of the recovery window to ensure his star striker is back as soon as possible. Haaland’s father confirmed that he had gone to Barcelona for treatment under a “partnership” City has with the facility. The hope is that by giving him a break in April, the injury can settle down and he can manage his game time accordingly.
In conclusion, Manchester City will look to maintain their recent good form as they aim to secure another Premier League title. With their star striker out injured and Liverpool looking to cause an upset, it promises to be an intriguing encounter at the Etihad. However, Guardiola has enough talent available to him and Alvarez could step up and make an impression on this season’s title race.
