On Sunday, April 16th, all eyes will be on Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe as Club de Fútbol Monterrey is set to face off against Club Santos Laguna S.A. de C.V. for matchday 15 of the Liga MX Clausura 2023.
After a blowout loss to CF America on matchday 14, Monterrey’s unbeaten record was shattered. With only three more matches left in the Clausura tournament, Monterrey will be looking for redemption when they take on Santos Laguna at home.
Santos Laguna, on the other hand, is coming off a disappointing defeat against Pachuca and has failed to win any of its last six away matches. The team has just four wins and 16 points from 14 matches played and needs a win to secure their place in the top 12 standings for the repechaje.
Scoring against Monterrey is no easy feat, as they have conceded goals in just two of their last five matches. Meanwhile, Santos has struggled defensively this season and have allowed a total of 31 goals with only two shutouts to their name.
As both teams gear up for Sunday’s match, history favours Monterrey, who leads the overall head-to-head record against Santos with 34 wins to their name compared to Santos’ 28 victories. In Liga MX play, Monterrey holds a narrow advantage with 29 wins compared to Santos’ 25.
Although the two teams have also met in the Copa MX and Concacaf Champions League with mixed results, Sunday’s game will be a critical one for both teams as they look to advance in the Clausura tournament.
Monterrey has had an impressive run this season, currently sitting at the top of the points table with 11 wins and 34 points from 14 matches played. The team has an unbeaten record of winning six consecutive home matches and has scored two or more goals in seven of their last ten home matches, averaging 1.90 goals per match.
With just one point needed to secure their direct passage to the quarterfinals, Monterrey will be looking to maintain their dominance in the league. Despite having lost their unbeaten streak last weekend, they remain one of the top contenders for the Clausura title.
Experts predict that the match total is likely to be over 2.5 goals, with Monterrey expected to win with a scoreline of 3-0. The Moneyline also favours Monterrey at 170, while Santos is at +430 and a draw is at +330.
With everything on the line for both teams, Sunday’s match promises to be an intense showdown between Monterrey and Santos Laguna. Fans can catch all the action live on FS2 and FOX Deportes in the United States and on FOX Sports in Mexico using viewing options such as fuboTV, Sling TV and the FOX Sports app.
