Nottingham Forest considers former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira as new head coach

Nottingham Forest is reportedly considering the former Crystal Palace boss, Patrick Vieira, to replace the under-fire Steve Cooper as the club’s new head coach. The rumors come amid a string of losses and a nine-game winless streak, raising concerns about Nottingham’s survival in the top flight.

Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest’s Challenges in the Premier League

Cooper has been in charge of Nottingham Forest for 19 months, leading them from a possible relegation spot in the Championship to the Premier League. However, his reign has become increasingly rocky following their massive overhaul of the squad last summer. The January transfer window was problematic for Cooper after Filippo Giraldi, Sporting Director, was dismissed from his role due to unsuccessful signings that unsettled the team. In addition, Cooper has faced instability due to conflicts between him, the recruitment team, and owners.

Other managers have been approached to replace Cooper, adding speculation and uncertainty to the club. The academy also faces uncertainty, with the director of football development out of contract and expected to leave.

Despite facing these challenges, Cooper is popular with fans and has contributed to leading his team through a learning experience as a first-year Premier League manager. However, pressure from owners who demand performances may prove unsustainable.

Patrick Vieira – Nottingham Forest’s Preferred Solution?

Reports suggest that Nottingham Forest is seeking potential replacements for their struggling coach Steve Cooper. At present, they are teetering on the edge of relegation with just three points from nine games. According to sources close to Forest management, the club’s preferred choice for a new coach is ex-France midfielder Patrick Vieira.

Despite being sacked by Crystal Palace earlier this season due to a slide down the table after overseeing 74 matches at Palace winning only 22 leaving him with just a 29% win ratio; according to club insiders, individuals at Forest still see Vieira as the best option to assume the hot seat.

Vieira Open to a Quick Return?

The Frenchman is aware of Nottingham’s interest but prefers to wait until summer before returning to football, having only been dismissed from his last job a few months ago. Vieira’s recent sacking may make him look like a risker appointment for Nottingham Forest. Still, it could also be an opportunity for his side to show off his interest in returning shortly after leaving Palace.

Nottingham Forest Treading on Thin Ice

Cooper became an instant hit with Nottingham Forest last season, ending their two-decade absence from the English elite. Indeed, many fans have praised his contribution even during the current run of poor form. However, the 46-year-old coach’s future is unclear.

Nottingham Forest lost eight and drew one of their nine Premier League games. Owner Evangelos Marinakis recently gave Cooper a vote of confidence, but another disastrous result against Manchester United over the weekend could change everything.

Is Hiring Vieira the Right Move?

Cooper has been successful at Forest and some argue that Vieira may not improve the team’s current form. Nevertheless, others claim that hiring Vieira could bring extensive knowledge and experience, given his time as a player with multiple clubs as well as spells coaching in MLS and Ligue 1.

However, some critics argue that hiring an inexperienced manager like Vieira would be a huge mistake and likely lead to disaster for Nottingham Forest. They suggest that they should consider other options rather than risking relegation in this crucial time of the season.

Overall, the pressure is mounting for Nottingham Forest management to make a tough decision about the head coach position amid declining performance in Premier League matches. With all these rumours about Steve Cooper’s future and Patrick Vieira’s preferences and experience swirling around, fans are eager to see what move will Nottingham Forest take next.
