WWE’s WrestleMania 39 started with a bang on Saturday night, April 1, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Fans were thrilled to see their favorite wrestlers battle it out for the championship titles. With seven scheduled matches on Night 1, the audience was curious to know who would win and who would lose.
One of the most anticipated matches of Night 1 was Austin Theory vs. John Cena for the WWE United States Championship. Fans were eager to see Cena return to the ring after a long absence. Both wrestlers gave a tough fight, but it was Theory who emerged victorious, retaining his title.
Another exciting match on Night 1 was between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Flair has been a dominant force in the women’s division and Ripley had won the Women’s Royal Rumble in 2023. It promised to be a thrilling contest and it delivered. In the end, Flair managed to defend her title against Ripley.
The tag team match between The Street Profits, Alpha Academy, Braun Strowman and Ricochet, and The Viking Raiders was action-packed from start to finish. The winner would become the Undisputed Tag Team Champions. The Street Profits emerged as champions after defeating their opponents in an incredible display of athleticism.
Fans were disappointed to learn that they could only watch WrestleMania 39 on Peacock with a Premium or Premium Plus account that cost $5 or $10, respectively. Peacock is a streaming service that can be accessed on various devices such as mobile phones, PCs, Apple TV, Samsung Smart TVs, Xbox, and PlayStation.
The main card for Night 1 included several exciting matches such as Austin Theory vs. John Cena for the WWE United States Championship, Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and a tag team match between The Usos and Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn for the Undisputed Tag Team Championships. Other matches included a six-woman tag match between Becky Lynch, Lita & Trish Stratus against Damage CTRL, and a showcase match between Braun Strowman & Ricochet, The Street Profits, Alpha Academy, and The Viking Raiders.
Seth “Freakin” Rollins’ match against Logan Paul was not covered in this article besides being listed on the match card. However, fans were excited to see Rollins return to the ring after being absent due to injury and were curious to see how he would fare against the controversial YouTuber.
