Apple TV working on a Multiview feature for live sports streaming

Apple’s trend of ramping up its multimedia offerings is continuing with the addition of a new Multiview feature. This time, it is expected to be geared specifically towards sports enthusiasts. According to sources, this new upgrade will allow up to four simultaneous video streams for live sports matches in the Apple TV app.

The Multiview Feature

While third-party apps like ESPN and FuboTV already offer quad-box Picture-in-Picture (PIP) streaming on tvOS, the new Multiview feature promises to take live viewing to another level. This experience is expected to have a grid layout, allowing users to watch up to four simultaneous sports matches at once.

According to reports, when browsing sports content in the TV app, users will have the option to start watching in full screen or in multiview mode. However, if they attempt to add a fifth game to the grid, an error message would appear.

Development of the Multiview Feature

The discovery of this feature was found in the iOS 16.5 beta 1 build by developer Steve Moser. While the multiview feature has previously appeared in Apple’s iOS codebase, new references indicate ongoing active development.

The forthcoming beta version may include several “nice-to-have” features like multiview, according to Bloomberg reports. Though Apple has yet to make an official announcement regarding its timeline for release or what software versions it will be compatible with.

Evolution of the Apple TV App

Apple has made no secret of its plans for expansion in streaming services. The recent investment in streaming sports content makes this feature more useful than ever before for Apple TV customers.

Additionally, sources claim that more sports streaming deals are expected to be negotiated by Apple in the future for their TV app. With these moves, Apple aims to provide a comprehensive, all-in-one streaming service to its customers.

Beta Testing of iOS 16.5

Apple began beta testing of iOS 16.5 soon after releasing iOS 16.4, and it may be the last update before the upcoming iOS 17 release. While new features in this version include a Sports tab in the Apple News app and Siri screen recording, reports suggest that iOS 16.5 will have fewer new features compared to iOS 16.4.

As with all beta versions, users should always proceed with caution when installing them. Users are advised to back up their data before installing beta versions, as issues like glitches and compatibility problems may arise.

In conclusion, Apple’s plan to develop a Multiview feature for sports content shows that the company is intent on providing its users with a comprehensive streaming platform. As Apple ramps up its efforts towards product innovation, we can expect significant expansion from the company in this field moving forward.
