Lamborghini has unveiled its first hybrid supercar, the plug-in hybrid Revuelto. The car will close out a half-century of purely gasoline-powered V12 cars going back to the brand’s earliest models. The new car promises impressive performance, with maximum combined peak power of 1,001 horsepower and a 2.5-second 0-60 mph time.
The Lamborghini Revuelto is a plugin hybrid and has a V12 gasoline engine and three electric motors, which brings the powertrain’s output to 1,001hp. The car has a bright orange finish with angular body panels made of carbon fiber assembled around a new carbon fiber frame and monofuselage.
The batteries can be charged through a plug, like an electric car, providing a certain amount of purely electric driving. Once the batteries no longer have enough power to drive the car on purely electric power, it will operate like a standard hybrid, switching between electric and gasoline power or combination of two as needed.
The floor space freed up by putting the plugin hybrid supercars onto a single assembly line could be used to build Lamborghini’s next new model, a full electric car expected to be unveiled in 2028.
The design of the Revuelto features both familiar and new elements, with a hooded headlight design inspired by the Lamborghini sister brand Ducati. The car’s cabin is more spacious than previous Lamborghini models and includes additional stowage areas and digital display screens.
The car has four-wheel-drive and a double-clutch gearbox mounted in a transverse layout. It has semi-active wishbone suspension and active aerodynamics to keep the car planted in corners. The car has an all-new infotainment system that incorporates three displays: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 8.4-inch central display, and a 9.1-inch display.
The hybrid system complements the engine and brings the powertrain’s output to 1,001 hp. The car has a power-to-weight ratio of 0.26 hp/lb, which means that it is a light yet powerful supercar.
The car has a 6.5-liter V12 engine on its own produces over 813 hp, and its V12 engine points towards the back to make room for battery packs, allowing the car to maintain ideal weight distribution with 44% of the car’s weight on the front wheels and 56% on on the back.
Deliveries of the Lamborghini Revuelto will start later this year, and the first two years of production are already fully ordered. The Revuelto is said to signal the shapes and proportions of super sports cars of the near future.
The Lamborghini Revuelto is an exciting new addition to the world of hybrid supercars that promises impressive performance with its V12 gasoline engine and assistance from three electric motors. The car’s design features both familiar and new elements, making it stand out from other Lamborghini models.
While it may be sad to say goodbye to purely gasoline-powered V12 cars from Lamborghini’s earliest models, it’s exciting to see what new innovations will come with hybrid and electric cars from this iconic brand in the years to come.
