Microsoft Works on New Modular System for Windows 12, CorePC

Microsoft, the multinational technology company, is working on a new version of Windows, called CorePC. The new operating system is designed to revolutionize the platform and provide better security and faster updates. CorePC uses “state separation” to split Windows into multiple partitions, similar to iOS and Android, making it harder for malware to infect the system and faster to update. With various editions of Windows for different hardware, supporting specific features and apps for each, Microsoft’s next major version of Windows is scheduled to release in 2024.

Microsoft’s New Modern Version of Windows

The project is advanced and modular enough that Microsoft wants to tailor specific features and compatibility with different form factors for various devices. Codenamed “Hudson Valley,” Microsoft aims to have CorePC ready soon for its next major version of Windows client in 2024.

CorePC is a customizable variant of Windows that can be leveraged for different form factors. It scales up and down depending on PC hardware, allowing for new configurations of Windows. This feature will enable Microsoft to deliver a version of Windows that competes with Chromebooks in OS footprint, performance, and capabilities.

Introduction of Modularity

Windows 12 will be designed with a more modular system in mind. The new CorePC concept will strip Windows 12 down to its component parts, thus enabling quicker, more seamless updates to the OS.

Microsoft is taking on the low-end PC market with the introduction of its new modularity approach. This approach will enable more demanding AI apps into the more powerful upper echelons while targeting Chromebooks and Google’s Chrome OS.

Powerful AI Capabilities

Microsoft is experimenting with a silicon-optimized version of CorePC, with a focus on AI capabilities and vertically optimized hardware and software experiences. Some AI features being developed include contextual prompts based on displayed content and the ability to identify and manipulate objects and text within images.

The new project also includes using AI to analyze onscreen content and provide appropriate contextual cues. This means that Windows 12 can support modern computing tasks such as machine learning, data analytics, and greater artificial intelligence capabilities.

Native Compatibility with Legacy Apps

CorePC will maintain native compatibility for legacy Win32 applications on devices where it makes sense. The project is state-separated, enabling faster updates and a more secure platform via readonly partitions that are inaccessible to the user and third-party apps.

The new system will potentially introduce more demanding AI apps into the more powerful upper echelons of the PC market. This feature will make Windows 12 more useful to high-performance users seeking to leverage the latest in artificial intelligence capabilities.

In conclusion, CorePC is an exciting development in Windows that aims to modernize the operating system for multiple devices while still supporting legacy applications. The system’s modularity approach means that Microsoft can offer various editions of Windows for different hardware, supporting specific features and apps for each. With AI functionalities integrated into the system, Windows 12 could usher in a new era of computing by making it easier for users to access high-end features that were once only accessible by data scientists and computer engineers. In short, CorePC is an exciting development from Microsoft that has enormous potential to revolutionize the way we use computers.
