Rumored Features of iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: Solid-State Buttons and Programmable Action Button

Apple fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the upcoming iPhone 15 series, which is expected to be unveiled in September. While Apple has kept its cards close to its chest regarding the new iPhone, rumors have been floating around about the new features that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models might come with.

Customizable Action Button

According to an anonymous post by a forum member, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models may feature a customizable Action button that can be mapped to various system functions such as Ring/Silent, Do Not Disturb, Flashlight and more. While most of these functions can already be controlled with Back Tap, an accessibility feature introduced with iOS 14, the new Action button will allow users to access these features more conveniently.

Moreover, the Action button might continue working for some time after an iPhone runs out of battery juice due to the inclusion of a new low-power chip. Interestingly, this change is likely to be available only for the Pro models while standard versions of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models will continue to have a mute switch and two volume buttons.

Solid-State Buttons with Additional Functionality

One of the most controversial upgrades is reserved for iPhone 15 Pro models: solid-state volume buttons that work even when the phone is dead. The buttons are rumored to have additional functionality and are made of solid metal that vibrates when pressed. Capacitive buttons are more durable than mechanical ones and free up space inside the phone. The microprocessor in iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will manage tasks that require power to function while detecting button presses when the phone is dead or powered down.

Apple is currently testing two configurations of capacitive volume buttons, which strongly suggests that these buttons will have three-dimensional (3D) touch-like functionality. There is no information yet about the new solid-state mute button, but it is likely to be programmable.

Upgraded Features in iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to have the world’s thinnest bezels, a new A17 chip, upgraded LiDAR, and a gigantic rear camera. The models will also come with a unified solid-state volume rocker and power button that replaces the two separate buttons present on current iPhone models.

Further, the new microprocessor coming to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will replace Apple’s ‘Super Low Energy Mode’ used on current models. This new microprocessor will immediately sense capacitive button presses, holds, and even detect their own version of 3D Touch with the new volume up/down button, action button, and power button while the phone is dead or powered down.

Price Hike Expected

It appears that the price of the iPhone 15 Pro series will rise substantially due to these advanced features. Users who want to purchase an iPhone 15 might have to prepare themselves for the most expensive iPhone yet.

With several significant upgrades expected in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, it’s no wonder that Apple fans are eagerly waiting for its release. While some of these rumors may prove true come September when Apple unveils its new iPhones, we can expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks.
