The highly-anticipated PC port of The Last of Us Part I was launched with numerous bugs and crashes. Players are disappointed as the game has an “Mostly Negative” user rating on Steam due to performance issues, bugs, freezes, and crashes.
The Last of Us franchise gained popularity through the HBO show starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Sony likely wanted to capitalize on the popularity by launching the PC version. However, the delayed launch would have been better than a broken launch.
Developer Naughty Dog acknowledged the issues and is working on them. They have released their first update focusing mainly on stability and performance improvements. The team is investigating loading shader issues, degraded performance and stability, graphics driver problems, game boot issues, memory leaks, and mouse and camera jitter.
Iron Galaxy Studios handled the PC port along with Naughty Dog. However, they have a history of problematic PC releases.
The Last of Us Part I is highly anticipated on PC, but fans are disappointed with its current state. They are hoping that Naughty Dog can release more patches to resolve all the performance issues plaguing this game.
PlayStation Studios had previous success with PC ports of other games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, God of War, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves. This raises questions about how The Last of Us had such poor performance.
Naughty Dog copresident Neil Druckmann recently revealed plans for a prequel game that would have provided Ellie’s mother’s backstory, which was repurposed for The Last of Us TV show.
The Last of Us Part I PC port certainly has a lot of work cut out for it. While the developers are actively working on patches to fix the bugs and glitches, fans expect the game to live up to its reputation soon.
