Dennis John Hernandez, brother of late NFL player Aaron Hernandez, is facing criminal charges in Connecticut. According to reports, he is accused of throwing a brick onto the ESPN headquarters campus in Bristol and eluding police during pursuits in other towns. He was given a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace by Bristol police in connection with the ESPN incident.
On March 23rd, Hernandez possibly arrived at ESPN’s campus via an Uber ride and threw a white plastic bag containing a brick and a note onto the property before leaving. The note criticized ESPN and called out mainstream media outlets for their impact on family members.
In response to this, Bristol police received an anonymous complaint from someone who said they were concerned about Dennis Hernandez because he said he wanted to destroy property at the state Capitol and at ESPN. Hernandez admitted to being present at ESPN and was subsequently released by police.
Hernandez faces additional charges related to a motor vehicle incident on March 8th. He allegedly eluded police during chases but was later caught in Bristol. Police reported that he was having a mental health problem and took him to a hospital for evaluation.
During questioning by authorities, Hernandez revealed that he had been driving around Connecticut that day trying to get arrested because he no longer wanted to stay at his mother’s house. He was charged with reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.
Both the late Aaron Hernandez and his older brother Dennis “D.J.” Hernandez attended high school in Bristol, CT. D.J. went on to play football at UConn for four years before pursuing coaching positions at various schools.
ESPN confirmed the incident involving Dennis Hernandez and issued a statement regarding their cooperation with the police investigation into the matter.
Despite being released by police following his admission of involvement in the ESPN incident, Hernandez was issued a misdemeanor summons and has a hearing scheduled at New Britain Superior Court on April 6th.
