Dadeville, Alabama – A celebratory evening turned tragic on Saturday night when a shooting occurred at a Sweet-16 birthday celebration in downtown Dadeville. The incident happened at Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio, which was hosting the event. Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident that has left four people dead and more than 20 injured.
The victims of this tragedy include mostly teenagers, and some local students were present at the party. One of those killed was the brother of the birthday celebrant. The identities of all the victims have not been released by authorities yet.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation into this shooting. Numerous other law enforcement agencies, including the Dadeville Police Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, FBI, and the 5th Circuit District Attorney’s Office have also joined in to assist with the investigation.
Authorities have not released any details on potential suspects or motives for the attack. This lack of information is frustrating some members of the community who seek answers and closure.
Dadeville Mayor Jimmy “Frank” Goodman expressed shock and devastation at the incident but declined to give specifics. Local pastor Ben Hayes witnessed families’ heartbreak at the hospital after learning that their children had been shot.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey expressed her condolences to the people of Dadeville and called for an end to violent crime in the state. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth also urged Alabamians to pray for those affected by this tragedy.
A news conference scheduled for Sunday morning will provide more information about the incident. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence related to this mass shooting. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is urging anyone with information to come forward.
In addition, a disturbing image reportedly circulating on social media has been requested for removal by some individuals. Authorities are investigating the source of the image and its potential role in the incident.
Sadly, this is not the first mass shooting incident in Dadeville. A gunman wounded five people during a party at the American Legion Hall on August 28, 2016.
North Broadnax Street, which hosts several businesses including PNC Bank and the Tallapoosa County Courthouse, has been cordoned off by police. The county coroner declined to comment when reached by the media.
