Mid-Missouri was hit by a severe storm on Friday, May 21st, causing widespread property damage. The storm caused damage and dings to homes, cars, and backyard grills across the region. Golf-ball-sized hail was seen around Mid-Missouri on Friday afternoon. The hailstorm caused damage to homes, cars and businesses in Boone County.
Restoration and construction businesses are responding to property damage in the Columbia area by giving claim estimates for insurance and fixing the damages. Cedar Creek Homes and Camping World RV were among the businesses that sustained damage to their property. Some patrol cars of the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office were also damaged in the storm.
Companies have warned that storms like Friday’s can attract out-of-state contractors who may try to scam homeowners. They recommend researching companies and sticking to local contractors. Complaints against a business out of Springfield surfaced as they charged thousands without finishing work. The Missouri Attorney General filed charges against the company in February. It is advised to research the chosen company for restorations to avoid any additional scams.
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for various counties in Missouri due to incoming severe weather conditions. The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team had forecasted possible severe storms and tornadoes for Friday. The storms were moving quickly through the area, with potential for hail up to the size of golf balls, damaging winds of 70 mph, and a few tornadoes.
The National Weather Service has been issuing regular updates on the severe weather via its website and radio stations. Areas along and east of Highway 63 were at risk for EF2+ tornadoes. A High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory were in effect for parts of southwest Missouri, with potential for gusts up to 60 mph and scattered power outages.
The storm that hit Mid-Missouri on Friday caused significant property damage, and restoration and construction businesses are actively responding to the damages. Homeowners are advised to research companies before selecting them for repairs or restorations. Severe weather conditions continue to pose a threat to the region, and residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions when necessary.
