Severe Weather Wrecks Havoc in Arkansas, Resulting in Power Outages and Property Destruction

Severe thunderstorms with confirmed tornadoes, heavy rain, strong winds, lightning and fallen trees hit central and northeast Arkansas on Wednesday evening. The storms left destruction in their wake as power outages affected thousands of customers, and homes and businesses suffered damages.

Power Outages Plague Arkansas Cities

Entergy spokesperson reports peak outages of 54,278 before 7 p.m. Restoration process has started but traffic and debris pose challenges for scouts assessing damages. As per the latest reports, over 13,000 customers are without power, with Lonoke County having almost 6,000 outages and Cross County having over 2,400. North Little Rock area has roughly 15,000 without power. To assist with traffic control and equipment access the Arkansas State Police and National Guard have been requested to step in by Entergy.

Metro Little Rock Area Suffers Transmission and Distribution Damages

The metro Little Rock area has transmission and distribution damages as well as broken power lines. A few structures have broken poles that add to more chaos. Emergency response personnel are assessing damage and locating injured persons.

Homes Destroyed; Police Station Damaged by Tornadoes

Tornado reports indicate destroyed homes in North Little Rock and damage to the police station in Sherwood. Meteorologist reports damage across western and northern parts of Little Rock, Sherwood, Jacksonville, south of Cabot as well as in Garland County near Piney, and Fountain Lake. Debris reported near Interstate 430 in Little Rock.

Emergency Shelter for Storm Victims Opened

Emergency shelter established at North Little Rock Community Center for storm victims and their pets. Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office urges not to stop to survey damage according to its website unless necessary; take an alternate route if possible. National Guard front gate of Camp Robinson closed due to damage beyond it.

Power Outages Plague Memphis

Power is yet to be restored for hundreds of people in Memphis, Tennessee, almost 48 hours since the storm. MLGW workers are fixing power lines damaged by the storm. The outage has caused people losses in terms of food preservation, internet business, and livelihoods. MLGW outage map shows that more than 1,500 customers are still without power.

MGLW requesting people to check their website for updates and report outages as they work with their crews and contractors to restore power.

Entergy Arkansas is working to assess the damage and restore power. Additional workers have been requested to assist with the restoration process as specialized equipment such as backyard machines, excavators, and bulldozers are being brought in for storm response.

Safety Tips for Customers

Entergy Arkansas urges customers to stay safe during power restoration by avoiding downed lines and staying away from active work zones. Ensure proper use of personal generators and follow safety instructions provided by Entergy team members.

In conclusion, the onset of severe weather conditions should prompt individuals to exercise caution until certified competent authorities have authorized otherwise.
