Suspect Identified for Shooting and Threat Against California’s Capitol

Jackson Pinney – The Suspected Gunman

Authorities have identified a suspected gunman for shootings in Roseville and Citrus Heights. The suspect is Jackson Pinney, a 30-year-old man from Hayward. Witnesses reported that Pinney fled the parking lot in a gold truck and fired several rounds while driving through two Sacramento suburbs on Wednesday night. Shots were also reported in the Roseville area, damaging the Kaiser building from a bullet.

Credible Threat Against California’s Capitol

Pinney has also made credible threats against the California State Capitol, but it’s unclear when those threats happened. The threat forced California’s Assembly to cancel its Thursday session. Senators evacuated to work in a new location while the Capitol remained open to the public.

Authorities Searching for Pinney

Pinney is believed to be armed and dangerous, and people are urged to call 911 if they see him. His driver’s license photograph matches the witness description of the suspected shooter. He could be driving a 2002 gold or tan-colored Ford F-150 with a black soft tonneau cover and a 1996 white Acura Integra. Officers are searching for Pinney and his associated vehicles.

Increased Security Presence

The CHP’s Capitol Protection Section is working closely with the Legislature and public safety partners to ensure public safety. Security presence was increased in response to the credible threat, and staffers not yet in the area were urged to stay home and work remotely while the Capitol was evacuated.

Senate Secretary Erika Contreras sent an email to State senators and their staff members notifying them of the credible threat, and the California Highway Patrol and security partners were present in higher numbers in the Capitol area to alert the situation.

Business as Usual

The public was allowed to enter the building, and people, including school children, were taking tours. The session was moved to another state building nearby. The session, set to start at 9 a.m., was delayed by 45 minutes. Staff who had not yet arrived at work were instructed to stay home, and those already in their offices were told to remain in place.

Investigation Still Ongoing

The police believe that Pinney may be related to an incident at the State Capitol, and the investigation is ongoing. No one has been injured in the series of shootings so far. Lawmakers were told to check in for a session in a separate building down the street.

In conclusion, with the suspect still on the loose, authorities continue their search for Jackson Pinney. They are urging anyone with information to come forward and are reminding the public that Pinney is considered armed and dangerous. The investigation into the shootings in Roseville and Citrus Heights, as well as the credible threat against California’s Capitol, is ongoing. These events serve as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity immediately.
